Karl Johnson: Head Coach

Coach Johnson and his wife Beth live in Dublin with their three children; Brian, Kelly, and Erin. Karl and Beth have been married 16 years. Beth is a kindergarten teacher at Worthington Hills Elementary in Worthington, Ohio.

Coach Johnson is beginning his eighth year as head coach at Dublin Scioto High School. Prior to becoming the head coach of the Irish football program, Coach Johnson enjoyed thirteen years as an assistant coach in the Dublin City Schools.

During his six year tenure as head coach the Irish are 57-24, have won three OCC Championships and have qualified for the playoffs each five times including a trip to the state final four in 2003. The 2006 Irish finished 4-6 and 2-3 in the OCC Capital Division. Each of the Irish losses came to OHSAA Playoff teams. Two highlights in 2006 were defeating Kilbourne to bring home the Hard Road Trophy and defeating OHSAA qualifier, Olentangy Liberty.

Karl serves as the Region X Director for the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association and sits on the Sportsmanship, Intregrity, and Ethics Committee for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He served three years as an officer for the Central Ohio Coaches Association as well.

Karl graduated from Copley High School in 1984, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1989 and his Master of Education in 2002 from The Ohio State University. Karl spent eleven years as a math and science teacher in Dublin's middle schools before becoming Dublin Scioto's Head Football Coach. Coach Johnson teaches Career Based Intervention at Dublin Scioto.



Doug Taracuk: Offensive Line

Coach Taracuk returns to the Scioto coaching staff for the 2007 football season. Doug has thirty-two years of football coaching experience including stints at Cincinnati Princeton, Galion, Worthington, and Dublin Coffman. Coach Taracuk was an assistant on the 1985 Division II State Championship Team at Galion High School. The Barberton, Ohio native completed his Bachelors Degree in physical education and science education at Miami University. He also has a Masters Degree in Sports Management from The Ohio State University. Since 1988 Coach Taracuk has taught science at Davis Middle School in Dublin where he has also been an academic team leader for 19 years. Coach Taracuk's wife, Krista is the librarian at Thomas Worthington High School. The Taracuk's have two sons, Brad and Mark.



Lonnie Freeman: Wide Receivers

Coach Freeman is entering his 20th year in coaching, his fifth with the Irish. Lonnie has coached varsity football in the Hilliard School district for 9 years and the Worthington school district for 5 years. Coach Freeman attended The Ohio Institute of Photography in Dayton, Ohio. Lonnie and his wife Teresa, have three children, Lisa, Lonnie, and Jacob. Lonnie and Jacob are both graduates of Dublin Scioto High School. Coach Freeman owns and operates his own photography business, Lonnie Freeman Photography, Inc.



Pete Beale: Tight Ends Volunteer

Coach Beale is in his 13th year as a volunteer assistant in Dublin. Coach Beale is the tight-end coach. Pete began coaching in 1995 for the Division II State Champions at Scioto. He resides in Dublin with his wife Sherri. They have three children, Matt, Scott, and Lindsay and two grandchildren ( ). All three of the BealeŐs children graduated from the Dublin School District. Pete is employed by the Dublin City Schools and works at Dublin Jerome High School.



Gabe Hoover: Running Backs

Coach Hoover is in his sixth season as an Irish Football Coach. Gabe coached four seasons with the freshmen football team, three as head coach and became the Irish running backs coach in 2006. Coach Hoover also has coached at Davis Middle School. Gabe attended The Ohio State University and received a BS in Fitness and Management and a M.Ed in Physical Education. Coach Hoover and his wife, Georgia, have two daughters, Alexis and Morgan. Coach Hoover teaches Health and Physical Education and Health at Dublin Scioto High School.



Jim Schafer: Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers

Coach Schafer begins his 16th year teaching in the Dublin City School system. Jim is beginning his eighth year of teaching Social Studies at Scioto High School after 8 years of social studies experience at Sells Middle School. This is also Coach SchaferŐs 8th year at Scioto as the Irish Defensive Coordinator. Jim also has had coaching stints at Dublin Coffman High School, Sells Middle School, and Otterbein College. Jim graduated from Painesville Riverside high school in 1985. He earned his Bachelor's of Education Degree from Bowling Green State University in 1990. Jim's wife, Jennifer, is the librarian at Sells Middle School. Jim and Jen reside in Dublin with their two sons, Jacob and Justin.



Ben Schall: Outside Linebackers

Coach Schall is in his 9th year at Dublin Scioto High School. He graduated from Logan Elm High School in 1986 where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He is a 1990 graduate of Capital University where he received his B.A. in Art Education and played football. Additionally, Coach Schall received a M.A. in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University. After graduating from Capital University, he taught and coached at Hamilton Township for nine years, serving two years as an offensive coordinator and five years as the Head Girls Track Coach. Coach Schall, his wife Daphne and their two children, Allyson and Caleb, reside in Grove City.



John Witt: Defensive Line/Special Teams Coordinator

Coach Witt is beginning his fourth year as an assistant coach for the Irish. Coach Witt has twelve years of coaching experience coming from Westerville City Schools where he was the Head Coach at Blendon Middle School. Coach Witt is a graduate of Westerville South High School and earned his Bachelors Degree from The Ohio State University in 2001. Coach Witt is a History teacher at Dublin Scioto High School. Coach Witt and his wife Kortney reside in Westerville with their daughter Hannah and son zachary.



Kyle Sherman: Corners

Kyle Sherman, a 2003 graduate of Dublin Scioto High School, begins his teaching and coaching career at his alma mater in 2007. Coach Sherman graduated from Ohio Weselyan in the spring of 2007 where he was a two sport All-American player in football and baseball. At Dublin Scioto Kyle was a four year starter in baseball and football and also played two years of basketball.



Dave Nosker: Outside Linebackers Volunteer

Coach Nosker is returning to Dublin Scioto for his 29th season of coaching varsity football. Coach Nosker will begin his 10th year of football at Dublin Scioto. Dave is a graduate of The Ohio State University and received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Ashland University. Coach Nosker spent three years in the Canadian Football League, playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 1969-1972. Dave is returning for his thirteenth year as the principal at Davis Middle School. Coach Nosker's wife, George Ann, is the registrar at Jerome High School. They have two children, both graduates of the Dublin Schools. Mike is an administrative technician at Dent Wizard and Nichole is a graduate of the University of Findlay and is an employee of the Dublin City Schools. Dave and George Ann are the proud grandparents of their granddaughter, Mackenzie.



Gerald Jones: Freshmen Assistant

Gerald Jones begins his second year as a freshmen assistant for the Irish. Coach Jones is a second grade teacher at Chapman Elementary in Dublin. Gerald graduated from Franklin Heights High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. Coach Jones was a 4 year starter at defensive back at Marietta College. Coach Jones lives with his son Khalil.



Pat Castoe: Freshmen Assistant

Pat Castoe joings the Irish for his second year as an assistant coach after having spent a year at Worthington Kilbourne last season. Pat is a sophomore at The Ohio State University where he is majoring in special education. Coach Castoe is a 2006 graduate of Worthington Kilbourne High School, where he was a two-year starter on the defensive line. Coach Castoe resides in Dublin.



Keith Wedinger: Webmaster

Keith is the Irish webmaster and team statistician. The Irish are very proud of their website, www.sciotofootball.com, developed by Keith during the 2000 season. Keith is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati (www.bearcatnews.com) and is employed at Sterling Commerce. Keith is married to Karen Wedinger and they reside in Dublin with their two daughters Brenda and Kimberly.
